This area is a place to live for Japanese Imperial Families in Tokyo.
In Japan, we have the Emperor but he is the symbol of Japanese people after World War Ⅱ by the Japanese Constitution.
Now, the 125th emperor is the Emperor Akihito. “Akihito” is a first name for Japanese. He doesn’t have family name. His all family members, Japanese Imperial Families, don’t have family name because family names were given to people to control by the Emperor when he had a power. The interesting thing is that only the Emperor and Prince’s children have titles when
they are child because it is very rude for Japanese to call them who are possibility to be the next Emperor their first names.
There is another interesting rule about the Emperor. The Emperor has to be a male. I don’t know why daughters of emperor are not allowed to be the next Emperor. Some people say we have many Shinto events that only males can do. Some people say females might not official duties because of having children. Anyway, this rule was a big problem in Japan. The Imperial Family had not had any boys for 40 years so government started arguing about this rule. As soon as they started, the Emperor’s second son had a boy. Then, this problem was mothballed.
