VS. I have been trying to make up my mind on which of these two hobie's are best suited for my needs. Yes, the FX One is a powerful good looking boat and offers you the option of single handed sailing with a kite - a very appealing benefit. The massive spinnaker pole could probably double as a jousting pole in pre-starts, easily assisting in flicking the competition off their boats - he he. The slick lines and sheer beauty of this machine is sure to make any sailor with a little style feel the urge to run out and buy one? Then there is the TIGER, a well proven racing machine with increasing support from the local sailors. If you have a skilled readily available crew member, this seems the obvious choice. At 18 feet the boat is tougher to right, but the added waterline has a speed advantage. All of the above seems to be obvious differences, but having never sailed the FX One, I am a little concerned about the boats ability in serious swell or wind chop. The hulls sit low in the water and with the boats speed ability, it might become very difficult in tougher conditions. I am interested in taking my next Hobie offshore and it seems that
the Tiger is the natural choice with this being a primary need for me.That said, I still have a burning desire to run out and buy a FX One, even if it is for inshore sailing only. And if it did not cost 80% of the price of a new tiger, I would seriously consider doing that.
