“This quote (via Playgroundblues) is from Yochai Benchler and Henry Jenkins’s book Convergence Culture. It serves as a reminder that by extension schools are a medium. They will never die.  They will have their adherents (who doesn’t love mono LP’s better than CD’s), but in the end they are just tools for accessing content. School is a delivery technology that if past is prologue to present simply means that school must adapt (mayhaps radically) or obsolesce into some golden age fallacy. Socrates used the peripatetic method, Descartes crawled into a stove, and today most of us are a function of Carnegie units, but the lesson here is that these are merely delivery systems for the real goods–worthy learning. I have been very hard on schools because my experience with them has been uniformly dolorous, I hope we can move beyond building upon this mountain of skulls .  There is plenty of room for something new and beautiful and effective.  In fact it is probably already here like a diamond in the rough.”

This may seem to be a disturbing image, but I think such are needed to jolt me and by extension from a world that doesn't care much for ideas and thinking and the creative process.
