Took today off work to attend a fairly
extensive 4x4 course with the idea of learning to take a vehicle through some fairly aggressive off road situations. Great learning opportunity and worth while experience. The tracks that we where driving on are used by quad bike's (ATV's) and off-road motor cycles . During our training our instructor was continually (I mean the entire day) moaning about the impact that these smaller vehicles have on the area. This while we are driving a 3 ton 4x4 through the dunes, he's busy moaning about the damage these much smaller vehicles are causing in the area. I mean come ON!If your driving a 4x4 gas guzzling vehicle through the dunes, you are consuming more fuel and leaving larger tracks behind you. And when you decide to climb a dune, the track left behind is often huge. Maybe because a 4x4 is quieter and perhaps with the owners being a little bit snootier than others, there is a greater sense of entitlement. All things considered, who is really having the greater impact on the environment. Feels like a not brainer to me.
